Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the largest music conference on the planet. This year ADE is going to be especially hot because it will be celebrated 25 year of the local dance scene in Holland. 5 days, 2000 top artists, 450 events at more than 100 locations. It’s going to be the largest “private” festival of the planet with all the cream of the dance scene. The single problem may occur “how to get around”? SWMC Delegates Alena Makukhina (Marketing Director SWMC / Fortdance Agency) and Mike Spirit (Musical Director SWMC) will tell us how to choose the must-see venues and events among such a wide music variety.
Why do you think ADE is the must-see event?
AL: Do you mean why is it important for us as for the company or as for people in general? In my opinion, if you are a global part of this “show business”, the ADE is the event you must have in your attendance list. It’s obvious that everybody looks there for something he or she is interested in: one comes just to go to all the best parties at the same time, others come to arrange his/her business contacts or just to present him/herself.
For example, we are going there to meet with our old friends, to receive new interesting contacts and to fill SWMC 2014 with curious content.
Some people go there to have a rest, but we go to work ;)
Mike: ADE is the largest music conference in the world which gathers absolutely all the professionals of club industry. It is easy to get new useful contacts, to have talks and just to spend awesome time in the most beautiful city.
What do you expect to see and what new information do you want to receive there?
AL: We would like to see how this project develops. Every year ADE becomes more global and diverse. Of course we want to see something new. We plan to come back with a huge number of new contacts, of confirmed performances at SWMC and of interesting ideas!
Mike: According to the tradition, ADE will become the center of all the world tendencies that is why there is going to be new information and food for thought enough.
5 days, 2000 DJs, 450 events. What is your top list of the must-see events?
AL: Oh, it’s not so easy) you’d better ask Mike. As for me, I am more in business. But I can tell that it is a must to be at the last panel on Saturday, Demolition at Felix Meritis. It is really worth of it. From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Mike: It is true there are a lot of events to visit and every year the number just rises. What is good about ADE is that there are parties of all sorts and for any taste: if you like deep underground, you are welcome, if you like mainstream, you will find it for sure. All the best commercial parties take place at the Air club: this time there will be Pete Tong, Defected and etc. Chicago Social Club, Studio 80, Trouw are not of mainstream venues, but magnificent events from Innervisions, Watergate and other labels will take place there.
What are your wishes and recommendations you can give to those who come to ADE for the first time?
Mike: Arrange your schedule, don’t sleep much and enjoy Amsterdam!
AL: If you come for business, then wake up earlier and choose a little more interesting for you! Meetings are important, but don’t forget about day panels, some of them you should not skip!
If you come to party don’t forget that “full” means “full” in Amsterdam, so late come – no party for you. Forget your Moscow habit to come after 1:00 a.m. at the party. You are at the risk to miss all you came for! :)
